After a long but very eventful and exciting couple of months, the #UpskillByCardtonic program is finally over. Due to the intensity of the competition, and the magnitude of information and updates, we decided to put together a summary in form of a timeline. Of course, a fun walk down memory lane is never a bad idea.

– Announcement (June 20th, 2022)
On the 20th of June 2022, we officially announced the upskill competition. What it entails, and the link for interested applicants to apply.
We are giving away 15 MacBooks to 15 Tech Enthusiasts to facilitate their growth in the Tech Space.
The contest is open to developers, designers, and technical writers.

– Application Continues (July 7th, 2022)
We hosted a space session on Twitter to shed more light on the competition and encourage people to keep applying on the 7th of July, 2022. We co-hosted the space with the very famous Nigerian tech guru; Agba Akin and we shared some goodies with the listeners afterwards just because why not? 🤷🏾♂️😎
– Application Ended (15th of August, 2022)
On the 15th of August 2022, applications for the competition officially closed. We received a total of 7,104 applications, not considering duplicates.

– Applicants Screening Phase (18th of August, 2022)
We screened the applications based on a number of criteria:
- Weak Statement Of Confidence
- Wrong Education Level
- Invalid Phone Number
- Location Outside Nigeria
- Duplicate Applications
UPDATE ON #UPSKILLBYCARDTONIC 🚀
We have completed the 1st screening phase and a total of 956 applicants made it to the next phase. This is the breakdown:

– Assessment Phase (September 19th, 2022)
On September 19th, we announced the assessment details for the shortlisted candidates.
It entailed:
- Time and Date of the assessment.
- How candidates would be able to access the link.
- Duration of the test.
- Advice on how to take the test.
- Factors that could lead to disqualification.
- Grading structure.

The next phase of the #UpskillByCardtonic program is the assessment phase, which will take place on Saturday, September 24th, 2022.
On this date, at exactly 3 PM, you will receive a link in your email to initiate the assessment.

We sent a reminder a number of times before the D-day.

On the 24th of September 2022, we sent out the link and the assessment took place.

Two days later, we released the assessment summary.
The #UpskillByCardtonic assessment has ENDED.
We will release an aggregation of scores including average & highest scores, on Monday.
And participants will receive their results directly in individual emails, on Tuesday.

– Winners (September 30th, 2022)
We added a bit of twist and exciting news on the 30th of September 2022. Everyone was expecting us to announce the 15 winners alone. However, we announced that we were rewarding the top 50 candidates. We reached out to the top 50 candidates on the 5th of October 2022.

After extracting the top 10-20% across all categories, and further reviewing individual submissions, we are now down to 50 candidates.

– Announced winners (October 12th, 2022)
On the 12th of October, we announced the expected 15 winners.

– Prize Giving Event (October 20th, 2022)
We invited the top 50 candidates for an award ceremony and sent them a reminder days before the event.
The 29th of October 2022, was a big day. We had all the shortlisted candidates come in, Cardtonic representatives, loads of food and drinks, some memorable names, and of course the Macbooks. There was music, games, networking, and loads of entertainment.
What Was The Purpose Of This?
There is a lot of untapped potential in the tech space. Tech is a sector that has the ability to transform the standard of living of not just individuals but society as a whole. It helps makes our lives easier.
Solving these issues isn’t easy. Time, effort, and a lot of manpower go into it. To get better results, you need as many sharp minds as possible.
This is why we decided to simplify the journey of some young tech enthusiasts by giving them effective tools to improve the quality of their work.
Something that most young tech enthusiasts might not be able to afford but need.
Also, as a company with a give-back mindset, we believe we owe some of our success to the community, and giving back is a way to pay back the debt.
