Why We’re Sponsoring Moonshot Again

On one of those busy Wednesday mornings earlier this year, our Marketing Associate, Lawal shared a link on Slack. It was a link to the tech events catalogue he had been working on for some days.

For context, one of our goals for the year was to attend (and sponsor) the right tech events. So when we got on a call later on to review the catalogue, and he mentioned that Moonshot was a good idea, our first reaction was curiosity. 

No, not the kind that comes from not knowing. On the contrary, it was the kind of curiosity that familiarity brings. We participated as gold sponsors last year, but it was a last-minute decision, so we didn’t get to enjoy the whole experience. However, returning as sponsors this year would require stronger reasons.

It didn’t take us long to find them…

When he shared his screen and we saw the “Building Momentum” theme, Tomi pointed it out: “Wait, isn’t this what we’ve been doing?” She was right. Our product has grown in features and offerings. 

Last year, we launched the Cardtonic Virtual Dollar Card, which is Nigerian’s new best by the way. In April, we launched an e-commerce storefront to purchase gadgets.

We’ve been cooking up our public APIs for businesses that want to connect their infrastructure, and we’re about to launch our eSIM and International Bills features this October.

Not to forget, we also started a football club (Tonic FC). If this isn’t building momentum, then what is?

Someone else continued, “Yes, I agree. Since we’ve been growing and taking the company from good to great, I think sponsoring this edition of Moonshot only feels natural.”

Then the bigger question came: “What’s the best way to show up this year in a way that also reflects our growth?”

Suggestions started flying. And that was when Tomi blurted: “Platinum Sponsorship!”

One of our finance officers immediately responded, “Hmmmm, platinum? How much is that.” Typical finance team behaviour, right? Would it cost us more compared to last year? Yes! Did we go for it? Yes again! That’s because to an extent, it reflects how much we’ve grown.

We concluded that day on the call, and as the saying goes, “The rest is history”.

So, why did we decide to sponsor Moonshot again?

The short answer is, it felt right. More than ever, we resonate strongly with the theme for this edition. We’ve grown, and want to participate in a greater capacity.
